Harold Ervin Smith

Harold Ervin Smith, 83, of Springfield, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 16, 2018. He was born September 9, 1935 in South Charleston, the son of George Edison and Edith Nora (Bartley) Smith. Mr. Smith was a long-time devoted member of the South Charleston Freewill Baptist Church, where he played guitar and sang. He worked at Ohio Thermometer and retired from Thermometer Corp. of America. He loved gardening, and family was everything to him. Survivors include four daughters, Donna Layne, Diana (Kenneth) Dixon, Cathy (Phil) Suttles, and Connie Smith, all of Springfield; five grandchildren, Amy (David) Jones, Brian Dixon, Shane Suttles, Chad (Kristen) Suttles, and Kyle (Lindsey) Suttles; three great-grandchildren, Tyler Dixon, Levi and Madison Suttles; siblings, Howard (Arlene) Smith, of Urbana, Maryann Krugh of Columbus, Shirley Thurman of Urbana, and Robert Smith of Sidney, KY; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Etta Mae Smith on October 28, 1999; siblings, Junior, Myron, Melvin, Ruby, Roland, Margaret, and Earl; and his parents. The family wishes to give a special thank you to Comfort Keeper Caretakers, Ashley Gochenouer, Alice Cryder, and Sally Ross. Friends may call in the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the South Charleston Freewill Baptist Church with Revs. Bert Alsept and Forest Dyer officiating. Burial will follow in Fletcher Chapel Cemetery.
