Robert E. “Ears” Martin, 89, of Springfield, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018 in his home. He was born March 10, 1929 in Yellow Springs, the son of Maynard William and Helen Bessie (Rice) Martin. Robert was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service at age 80 after working there for over 54 years. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, and watching sports, especially the OSU Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds. Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, June (Riggle) Martin; four children, Brenda (Tom) Doughman, Bonita (Tim) Rathmell, Ronda (John) Parker, and Robert M. Martin (Carol Guzman), all of Springfield; grandchildren, Alan, Kristen, April, Whitney, Jessica, Joshua, and Justin; great-grandchildren, Aaron, Christopher, Kristiana, and Christian; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Christy Davis; grandson, Matthew; his five siblings, Charles, Virginia, William, Mary, and Barbara; and his parents. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday in Rose Hill Burial Park Chapel. Friends may visit with the family from 2:30 until the services begin. Burial will follow. The family requests funeral attendees to dress casually, wear Buckeyes or Reds gear if you have it, in honor of Robert. Arrangements are being handled by the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME.
