Betty J. (Shaffer) Maurer

Betty J. (Shaffer) Maurer, 99, went home to be with her Lord on December 15, 2025. She was born on December 4, 1926, the daughter of Forrest and Anna Shaffer. Betty was the beloved wife of Kenneth Maurer and a devoted mother who dedicated her life to faith, family, and service to others.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and was actively involved in her church throughout her life. Betty loved gardening, traveling, and camping, and she found joy in serving others. She was a Girl Scout leader, active in PTA and Cub Scouts, taught Sunday School, participated in 4-H, and shared her many talents freely. A gifted cook, she was especially known for her delicious pies, which she lovingly made and shared as gifts and donations to charities. She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting, was a beautiful seamstress, and played both piano and organ for her church.

Betty worked at Rike’s Alterations and continued altering clothing for friends and family for many years, always happy to help in any way she could.

She is survived by her son, Jerry (Barbara) Maurer; daughter, Chris (John) Haughey; and son, William (Ann) Maurer; her grandchildren, John (Amy) Haughey, Laura Haughey, Andrew Maurer, David (Latoshia) Maurer, Jennifer McConkey, Rachal (Tegan) McKenzie, and Rebecca (Stephen) Rhoton; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Kenneth Maurer; daughter, Jeanette Maurer; son, Ken Allen Maurer; daughter, Trudi McConkey; son-in-law, Bruce McConkey; four great grandchildren, brother, Howard Shaffer, and sister, Doris Katherine Shaffer.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 20 at the Lawrenceville Church of God.  Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am.with Pastor Alan Cain officiating. Burial will follow in Vale Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lawrenceville Church of God in Betty's name.
