Carolyn J. Smith, a cherished matriarch, and a beacon of joy, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, at her residence in Oakwood Village, Springfield, Ohio. Born on December 24, 1938, in Springfield, Ohio, Carolyn's life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and spirited engagement with the world around her. Carolyn's journey began as the beloved daughter of Earl Whitaker and Juanita Bader Whitaker, who instilled in her the values of family and community that she carried throughout her life. Her marriage to Clifton Leroy Smith was a testament to enduring love, and together they built a life filled with laughter and cherished moments until his passing. A devoted mother, Carolyn's legacy is carried on through her children, Connie Montgomery, Cheryl Frasher, and Clifton Todd Smith. Her role as a grandmother was one of her most treasured, as she showered love and wisdom upon her grandchildren, Heather (John), Tyler "TJ" (Amber), James (Amber), and Joseph "JoJo" (Ceaira). Each of them will forever hold dear the memories of their grandmother's unwavering support and affection for them and her 8 great-grandchildren. Carolyn's professional life as a bank teller was marked by her meticulous nature and the warm rapport she built with her colleagues and clients. Her commitment to her work was paralleled by her involvement with the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, where she found a sisterhood that shared her passion for life. The sorority sisters often found themselves around a card table, sharing stories and laughter, a pastime Carolyn adored. Her interests were a reflection of her love for the finer things in life. Carolyn's marriage was her greatest joy, and she often reminisced about the romantic cruises she took with her husband. She had a particular fondness for playing cards with her sorority sisters, an activity that brought her immense happiness and camaraderie. Carolyn's love for sorority life was evident in her enthusiastic participation and the deep bonds she formed over the years. A collector of beauty, Carolyn treasured the Swarovski Crystals gifted by her husband, each piece a sparkling reminder of their love and the special occasions they celebrated together. These crystals, much like the memories of Carolyn, continue to shine brightly, reflecting the light she brought into the lives of those who knew her. Carolyn's passing leaves a void in the hearts of her family and friends, but her spirit remains a guiding light. Her laughter, her kindness, and her zest for life will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Carolyn J. Smith's story is one of love, friendship, and the joy of living fully, a story that will be told with fondness for generations to come. Arrangements are being made by JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME. There are no services scheduled at this time. Carolyn’s wishes were to be cremated and laid to rest with her beloved husband at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be shared at www.jkzfh.com
