Christopher D. Johnson, born on October 15, 1958, in Springfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025. He was a beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend whose warmth and generosity touched the lives of everyone he met.
Chris was preceded in death by his cherished daughter Hillary Alexandria Johnson; his devoted parents Kenneth “Kenny” D. Johnson and K. Sue Johnson; and his brother-in-law Trella D. “Donny/Woody” Harkins. He is survived by his two sons Christopher “Kyle” Johnson and Zachary Johnson; brother Timothy (Christine) Johnson of Vermont; sister-in-law Deborah “Debbie Kay” (Larry) Dixon; brothers-in-law Deke (Angelica) Harkins and Michael “Mikey” (Jane) Harkins; as well as special friend Danielle (Billy) Reffett.
Growing up in Springfield as an active Boy Scout under the watchful eye of his mother’s insistence to attend church services forcefully instilled values that would guide him throughout life. Chris spent many years working alongside his father at Johnson Oil Handling before embarking on a fulfilling career as a counterman at various auto parts stores—where he formed an unbreakable bond with John Detrick at Springfield Tire & Battery who became like a second father figure to him according to his children.
A true gearhead at heart, Chris had an unparalleled passion for cars that led him to become involved with several groups including Burnett Road Racing Team and Indian Valley Corvette Club. His love for speed extended beyond just racing—he enjoyed riding motorcycles on long trips with close friends such as Kevin Colvin while creating countless memories along the way.
Chris's infectious spirit made it impossible not to be drawn into his world filled with laughter and camaraderie. Known for always having connections or "knowing a guy" for anything you might need—from car repairs to life advice—his network of friends spanned far beyond what could ever be counted or listed here.
He shared countless adventures with lifelong friends Doug Hart, Leo Zawada, James Davis—and together they created bonds that will last forever even after their time together has ended. The joy he found in these relationships exemplified how deeply he cared about those around him—a trait reflected through too many nieces, nephews—and non-biological children—to name individually but all held dear within Chris's heart.
In honor of Christopher’s remarkable life filled with friendship and adventure—a celebration will take place at Jones-Kenney-Zechman Funeral Home on January 26th from 2-5 PM where family members invite all who knew him to come share stories reflecting the light he brought into this world.
Though we mourn our loss today—the legacy left behind by Chris will continue shining brightly through each person fortunate enough to have crossed paths with this extraordinary man. Condolences may be shared with his family at www.jkzfh.com.
