Darrell Eugene Blanton, 57, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born May 3, 1968 in Springfield, the son of Larry Eugene and Phyllis Jean (Lewis) Blanton. Darrell was a veteran of the United States Navy, where he served in the Seabee Construction Battalion. He was a retired Springfield City Schools teacher, and following retirement he worked as a security guard at both International Harvester and the Ohio Masonic Home. He was a member of the Lawrenceville Church of God, Crusaders for Children, and AMVETS. He was a Grand Master of Karate and had been inducted twice into the Karate Hall of Fame. He enjoyed horseback riding and sports and had coached both softball and football. Survivors include his two children, Rachel Blanton (Brandon Cottrell) and Austin “Gator” Blanton; his mother, Phyllis Blanton, all of Springfield; grandchildren, Jayce and Kason Reynolds; brother, Bruce (Ronda) Blanton of Myrtle Beach, SC; special friend, Robyn Newman; nieces and nephews, Steven, Brittany, Brian, Alyssa, and David; and his many brothers and sisters with Crusaders for Children. He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Monday, September 8 in the Lawrenceville Church of God with Pastor Alan “Preacher Man” Cain and White Buffalo officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 to 10:30 am in the church. Graveside services and burial will be held at 2:30 pm Monday at Peniel Cemetery, 2294 C H and D Rd. Oak Hill, OH 45656.
