David Smith Obituary

David Wallace Smith, 78, of South Charleston, OH, passed away on September 22, 2024 in Hospice of Dayton. Dave (AKA Big Dave) was born on August 19, 1946 in Springfield to Wallace and Edna (Frock) Smith. He retired as a supervisor at Navistar and then enjoyed working at GFS.
Dave loved the outdoors and especially loved hunting. He loved helping coach and attend the extracurricular activities of his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Becky (Ziesmer) Smith; 3 children, Chad (Mitzi) Smith, John (Erin) Smith, and Jen (Tim) Bartell. He dearly loved his 6 grandchildren, Alyssa, Hannah, Samantha, Aiden, Logan and Avery; one sister, Dawn (Neil) Miller; sisters-in-law, Sandra Newman and Kathie Ziesmer; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special cousin, Rick Lohnes, who he said was the younger brother he never had. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2024 in First Presbyterian Church, South Charleston. Visitation will be held starting at 1:00pm with the service to follow at 3pm.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of Dayton for the heartfelt care they showed him. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave, Dayton, OH 45420-1890.
