Donald "Donnie" Asper Obituary

Donald “Donnie” E. Asper, Sr., 81, of Springfield, Ohio, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2025. He was born on January 6, 1944, to Edgar A. and Martha E. (Hammann) Asper. Donald was a 1962 graduate of Shawnee High School and was a United States Army veteran who served in Germany. He retired as a supervisor from the Ohio Masonic Home after dedicating 33 years to the maintenance department where he could be counted on to go in and fix things day and night. Throughout his years at the Masonic Home, he made many friends with coworkers and residents. Donald also owned his own business, Don’s Repair Service. He was a dedicated Mason, a man who was a member of St. Andrews Lodge #619, York Rite bodies; Springfield Counsel #17, Shawnee Chapter #237 and Palestine Commandery #33 and Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, 32nd Degree Mason. In his spare time, he enjoyed technology, computers, playing Solitaire, spending time with family and attending his grandchildren’s numerous sporting games, concerts, etc. 


Donald was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Sonny Asper; sister, Marjorie Lou Asper; father and mother-in-law, Bob and Lucille Kriegbaum; brother-in-law, Kenny Wheeler and several dearly loved pets.


Donald is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ruth E. (Wheeler) Asper; daughter, Tracy (Asper) Stehle; son, Donald “D.J.” Asper, Jr.; grandchildren Amanda (Asper) Crowell and husband Justin, Charles Asper, Madeline Asper; 8 great-grandchildren, Arabella Crowell; Chase, Skyler, Wyatt and Charlotte Asper; and Jax Asper, Riley and Blake Wade; and sisters-in-law Joy (Gary) Johnson, Kaye (John) Linardos and Julie (Tommy) Newell.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Sue Grabowski, Mary Grabowski and Heather Langen for the friendship and care that they gave for Donald.


The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, from 10am-11am at the Glen Haven Memorial Gardens Chapel, 8200 W. National Road, New Carlisle, Ohio 45344. Services will follow, beginning at 11am; Army Honors, Masonic and Traditional, officiated by Pastor Rick Clos.


Donald will be laid to rest at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
