Douglas "Doug" Dye Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Douglas “Doug” Camden Dye on October 29th, 2025, in Springfield, OH. Doug was born in the back of an ambulance on November 26, 1958, in Columbus, OH, to the late Hazel Moore and Therian Dye. This event may have set forth his, spontaneous nature.

Raised in Parkersburg, WV, Doug lived briefly at the Henry Logan Children’s Home. He talked fondly of his memories and skills he learned there, with Ms. Doby, that he carried on to adulthood.

Doug served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years and continued his duty as a civilian worker stationed at Wright Patt Air Force base as an Intelligence Specialist in the Department of Defense. After 35 years of dedicated service he retired, gaining lasting friendships.

In 1983 Doug married his caring and patient wife Emly and they settled down in Springfield, OH. They had their first daughter, Carolann, in 1993 and five years later welcomed Chelby. They were given the opportunity to raise them in Emly’s childhood home in Forrest Hills alongside their late maternal grandmother Emly Ann.

For many years Doug was a member of St. Andrew’s Lodge No. 619, having been raised a Master Mason on January 10, 1985. He joined Palestine Commandery No. 33, in 1987, and had served as commander. His faith in the Lord provided a foundation for his life and influenced his commitment to Free Masonry.

On Labor Day weekend for 23 years, Doug participated in The Fair at New Boston, an 18th century trade fair. He worked with longtime friends and made many new ones at the Black Horse Tavern.

Doug lived to socialize, from hosting parties at his home to meeting friends at a brewery or for a concert. He enjoyed listening to rock music some would deem too loud, taking photographs of anything and everyone, entering radio sweepstakes, being on the golf course, his cup of morning coffee, gift giving, and most of all seeing his family happy. You would likely find him in a crisply ironed t-shirt, a colorful outfit (especially tie-dye), white patent leather sneakers, or dressing up for an occasion.

He was perfectly imperfect. At times he was stubborn and unpredictable, but one thing is for certain–he could make any stranger a friend and never missed the opportunity to wave at a passerby from his porch.

Doug is preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Moore, his father, Therian Dye, brother Lyle Talbott Jr and brother-in-law, Fred Rausch. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Emly, as well as his two daughters and one son-in-law, Carolann Dye and Chelby (Davis) Weerheim. Doug will be forever missed by his siblings Mark (Sandy) Dye, Pamela Dye-King (Jim Rafeld), Karen Cochrane-Dye, Kevin (Pam) Talbott, Janice (Rick) Nolan, aunts, cousins, many nieces and nephews, and friends that became family.

Arrangements are being made by JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME. Services will be held at the St. John’s Lutheran Church on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at 5pm. Prior to the service, there will be a gathering of friends and family beginning at 3:30pm. Condolences may be shared at www.jkzfh.com
