Edward Leslie "Butch" Montgomery, Jr., a man whose zest for life was as unmistakable as his love for his family and football, passed away on October 2, 2025, at the Springfield Regional Medical Center in Springfield, Ohio. Born on July 23, 1957, in the same city that he would later leave a lasting legacy. Butch grew up in Springfield, the cherished son of the late Edward Montgomery Sr. and Virginia Spicer Montgomery. His early years were filled with the warmth of a close-knit family. Butch's life was a testament to the power of love and the importance of family, a theme that was evident in every aspect of his life. He is survived by his loving wife, Connie Smith Montgomery, who was his partner in every sense of the word. Together, they navigated the ups and downs of life with grace and humor. Their children, Edward (Chantel) Montgomery III, Lindsey (Ryan) Thompson, Tyler "TJ" (Amber) Mounts, and Heather (John) Kelley, were the pride of Butch's life. His role as a father and stepfather was one, he cherished deeply, and his guidance and support shaped the lives of his children in countless ways. Butch was also a beloved brother to Victor Jay (Pam) Montgomery and Kim (Bob) Cave. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Jeff and Terry Montgomery, whose memories remained dear to him throughout his life. The joy of his many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews added an extra sparkle to his eye, and he was a favorite at family gatherings, known for his heartwarming stories. A lifelong fan of the New England Patriots, Butch's passion for football was evident to all. He could often be found cheering on his team, sharing his extensive knowledge of the game, and reveling in the camaraderie that sports bring. Butch's interests extended beyond the gridiron; he was at one point an avid golfer, finding peace and challenge on the greens. His love for games didn't stop there – he was a formidable bingo player and enjoyed the friendly competition of bowling with friends. Butch's legacy is not only one of love and family but also of the joy he found in everyday moments. His ability to find happiness in simple pleasures, to create lasting memories with those he loved. As we bid farewell to Edward Leslie "Butch" Montgomery, Jr., we celebrate a life well-lived, a heart well-loved, and a man who will be deeply missed.
