Gordon Lee Dykes, 84, of Springfield, passed away January 11, 2026 in his home. He was born April 24, 1941 in Kingman, Indiana, the son of William and Jeanette (Sullivan) Dykes. Gordon was a proud veteran of the United States Army and retired from the Army Reserves. In addition to his service in the reserves, he worked at Navistar for 32 years before retiring. He was a talented musician and had enjoyed playing bass guitar in a couple local bands over the years. He was a mechanic and fix-it man, always tinkering with cars and electronics. Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Dolly (Ledbetter) Dykes; four daughters, Glenda (Edward) Gass of Bryant, AL, Lori (Bill) Batten of Springfield, Nancy (Christopher) Roach of Medway, and Jennifer Laudermilt of Springfield; daughter-in-law, Chris Lee of Smithfield, IL; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Leland Dykes; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Allen Lee; five siblings; and his parents. Visitation will be held from 1-3 pm Thursday in the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME.
