Jerry A. Payton, Sr.

Jerry A. Payton, Sr., age 75, departed this earth and entered eternity on July 16, 2024 after many years of failing health. Jerry was born February 3, 1949 at home in Springfield, Ohio to his parents, Walter and Mabel (Palmer) Payton. He was preceded in death by his eldest son, “L.J.” (Jerry), who was born on his father’s 21st birthday. Also preceding him were his siblings, Helena Hiestand, Bobby and Ronnie Payton, and Mary Owen. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Kristan Payton; children, Jason (Natalie) and grandchildren Nyota and Jett Payton of Springfield, Ohio, Sarah (Dre) and grandchildren Tyler and Serenity Billingsley of Springfield, Ohio, Wyatt Payton (fiancée Amanda Floyd) of Enon, Ohio; bonus daughters, Betsy Bowshier of Tent Woods, NC and grandchildren Taylyne and Garrett Cearley, New Carlisle, Ohio and Kailee Bowshier and grandchildren Jadalyne and Ja’Miah Bowshier, and future grandson, Adrian of Springfield, Ohio, daughter-in-law; Paula Payton of Springfield, Ohio and grandchildren; Josh, Zach, Jessica, Alexa Payton all of Springfield, Ohio; Charity and Jared Hughes of Springfield, Ohio and Kate Hughes of Texas. He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn Ratliff, as well as many nieces and nephews. Jerry had careers in law enforcement and he was retired from Kroger, where he was known by many. Jerry loved country music and would often entertain the grandchildren by playing his harmonica and singing to them. His past hobbies included many fishing trips with friends to Canada, camping, tinkering in the garage, talking on the CB radio, and trips to Nashville, TN. Special thanks to Dr. Morganstern for his years of care, Northwood Care Facility for their care during difficult times, and Cherish Hospice for all of their support. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Rick Clos officiating.
