Joanne Elaine (Stephenson) Bexfield

Joanne Elaine Bexfield, age 79, of Springfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026.

Joanne was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio, to Marion K. Stephenson and Helen I. (Leininger) Stephenson, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Bellefontaine High School in 1964 and continued her education at Northwestern School of Commerce in Lima, graduating in 1966 with a degree in Business Administration. Joanne began her professional career at Credit Life Insurance Company, where she served as head of the bookkeeping department before later continuing her career with Assurant.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was lovingly known by her family as “Mama.” She had a warm and caring heart and dedicated much of her life to loving and supporting her family. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who meant the absolute world to her.

Mama was known for her generous spirit and her love for helping others. She loved to talk and had a special way of making people feel better almost instantly. She gave the best advice and truly never knew a stranger. Anyone who met her was welcomed with kindness and warmth.

Joanne had numerous cousins whom she cherished, but she was especially close to Sue and Luanne Leininger of Bellefontaine and Andy (Sarinda) Leininger of North Carolina.

Mama leaves behind many cherished memories with her family and friends, who will continue to carry her love and spirit in their hearts. She is survived by her daughter, Buffy Morris; her granddaughters, Nichole O’Connor, Natalie Black, and Gracie Morris; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Kaydence Keating, Kenleigh Keating, Jaydee Gilbert, Spencer Keating, and Jozie Gilbert.

Mama will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her kindness, strength, and love for her family will never be forgotten. She had a way of making every person feel seen, heard, and cared for, and that gift of love will live on in the hearts of everyone who was blessed to know her.
