Kathryn Ann Ubry Hart, 77, peacefully departed this life on February 16, 2026, in Springfield Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family. Kathy was born in Newport, Rhode Island on January 9, 1949 to John G. Ubry and Mary J. Patterson Ubry. She was a lifelong resident of South Charleston, Ohio.
In 1992, she married her best friend and love of her life, Roger L. Hart. They were together for 28 years until his death during the pandemic in 2020.
Kathy was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a 24+ year veteran of the Springfield Police Department. While at the police department, to her mother's delight, earlier in her career, she could be heard giving the morning traffic report on the radio. She was a decorated detective, working tirelessly to keep the children of Springfield safe and protected.
Kathy was a dedicated Buckeye and Cincinnati Reds fan, often watching or listening to more than one game at the same time!
In her later years, she and her husband, Roger, could be found traveling in their camper with their dogs to racetracks to attend Nascar races. During that time, they made many friends who they kept in touch with even after they could no longer travel.
Kathy also worked in her retirement as a barista at the London Coffee Peddler. She enjoyed the customers and her time creating baked goods and coffee drinks for them.
She is survived by her children, Jeff Rice (Deb) and Andrea Monhollen (Tony); grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Mallory Johnson (Joshua) (Colter and Kase), Tyler Rice (Kristina) (Carter, Ryker, Reese), Cody Rice (Chloe), Bailey (Galilee); and her sister, Linda Ubry Shearer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger; her son, Sean Rice; her parents, Jo and Jack Ubry; and her sister Jackie Ubry Myers.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm Wednesday in the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Thursday in the funeral home. Entombment, with military honors, will follow at Rose Hill Mausoleum. Condolences may be shared online at www.jkzfh.com.
