Lorraine Boyer of Springfield, OH was born May 25, 1933 in Pikeville, KY, and passed away on July 1, 2025 after a month-long stay at Forest Glen in Springfield where she received excellent care. Lorraine had a diverse career as an entrepreneur and proprietor of The Blue Diamond Grill for 10 years, a flea market owner in central Springfield and a server for Elderly United at Hugh Taylor. She proudly led and recruited for the local chapter of the Ohio Bar Owners Association, winning an award for getting the most members and expanding the chapter. A staunch democrat, she marched in Washington DC to advocate for worker’s rights. As an avid gardener, she loved flowers, fresh fruits, vegetables and anything related to birds. We will miss her famous rhubarb butter! A fabulous cook, she was known for hosting seasonal get togethers, consistently promoting unity in the family. As a devoted matriarch, she selflessly helped her children, stepchildren (whom she treated as her own) and grandchildren through her timely advice and straight talk. She was invariably the first to roll up her sleeves whenever anything needed done. Always cheering for the underdog, she took in many family members throughout her life when they were down and out and never hesitated to help those in need. In her later years, she enjoyed going to the casino in Columbus and without fail “broke even” (whether she did or not). She will be remembered and celebrated for her big heart, sense of humor, quick wit and unflinching truth telling; as well as her knack for recollecting random songs during conversations and reciting the lyrics word for word. She was indeed the keeper of the family history with her sharp memory and great storytelling capability. Lorraine was preceded in death by her dear husband, Jack Boyer, parents, Ira and Martha (Mullins) Kendrick, her brothers Clarence Edward, Charles Ray, Frank, Robert, and Thomas Kendrick, sisters Eunice Forbes, Evelyn Smith and Ruth Mathews, son, David Nall, daughter, Loretta Nall, stepdaughter, Leslie Conley, son-in-law, Dan Witt, granddaughter, Treva Christy, step-granddaughter, Terah Baldwin and grandson, Carl Nall. She is survived by her sisters Joyce Remy and Carolyn Smith, her son James (Tammy) Nall, her daughters Terry (Roger) Freeman and Lisa (Paul Mahaffy) Witt, stepdaughters Kim Walker and Traci Jones, a multitude of beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and, of course, her sweet dog Maggie. Lorraine was deeply loved and will be truly missed by all who survive her. Funeral services will be held at Jones, Kenney, Zechman Funeral Home, 1002 East High Street, Springfield, OH on Saturday, July 5 at 2:00 pm. Visitation will start at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow later in July at Elk Cemetery in McArthur, OH at a time to be determined.
