CLARK, Mary Lou (Brinkman)
Mary Lou (Brinkman) Clark joined her beloved husband Ned on September 10, 2023. Mary was born in Springfield, Ohio on April 23, 1934, and was the sixth of twelve children of Edward J. and Cordia B. Brinkman.
Mary was the salutatorian of her high school class, the last graduating class of Plattsburg High School, and was awarded a full scholarship to Cedarville University. She was an educator at Springfield City Schools for 25 years where she received an exemplary award. Her scholarly aptitude led her to be cited in academic journals and research papers.
As dedicated parents, Mary and Ned showed their three children the wonders of nature and the pride of national monuments by travelling and camping throughout the country.
A faithful and devoted Christian, Mary was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, Bible School, sang in the church choir, and served as treasurer and board member until its closing in 2004. As a member of Pitchin Community Church, she was involved in church activities, charitable endeavors, and created the weekly Sunday bulletin for more than a decade.
Mary and her husband were avid Cincinnati Reds fans, having an entire room dedicated to the team. As “Rosie Reds” they enjoyed Opening Day for more than 30 years in row and frequented Riverfront Stadium and Great American Ballpark. They spent much of their retirement following team, meeting many of the players, and enjoying the thrills of nearly every MLB ballpark in the nation.
Mary was preceded in death by Ned, her beloved husband of 57 years, her parents, and several siblings. She is survived by her children; Steven A. Clark (Janice), Eric A. Clark, Amy E. Clark Knapp, and nine grandchildren, including; Adam Clark Knapp, Melinda Lecocq, and Jordan Mathews, who were dedicated to her care and great grandchildrfen.
The Clark family wishes to extend their gratitude to dear friends and neighbors who were always willing to assist with her care, and to her medical team from Crossroads Hospice and Palliative Care for the extraordinary care and support they provided to Mary and her family.
