Rita R. Matthews

     Rita R. Matthews, 73, formerly of Springfield, passed away April 9, 2026, in her home.  She was born April 30, 1952, in Springfield the daughter of William and Ruth (Payton) Matthews Sr. Rita attended St. Joseph Catholic Church and School and was a 1970 graduate from Catholic Central Highschool.  “My greatest blessings in life are my children, Daniel C and Timothy R. Banion and daughter; Crystal Gnau. I enjoyed all of the laughter in my home, cooking and being the confidant to many friends. After many years of office work, I found my true calling which was helping others that became loving friends.” Survivors include sons; Daniel Banion and Timothy Banion, daughter; Crystal Gnau, brother; Pat Matthews (Diana Borden), sister; Madonna Judy, aunts; Nellie Ramey and Margaret Slygh and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by brothers; William Jr., Willis and Michael Matthews and her parents. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Rita’s life will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, beginning at 11:00 AM. Memories will be shared at 12 Noon.
