Roberta Marie “Birdy” Palmer, 84, of Springfield, passed away on Friday, November 7, 2025 in her home. She was born June 21, 1941 in Springfield, the daughter of Charles and Aggie Mae (Happenny) Cox. Roberta was an avid church-goer, where in the past she sang in the choir and played the organ and accordion. She then began attending Fellowship Christian Church, where she would enjoy the Word of God with her family . She was a caregiver and always remembered to send cards for birthdays, get-well, etc. She is survived by her only daughter, Iris Dunn; two grandchildren, Patience Dunn and James E. Dunn III; two great-grandchildren, Braxton and Maddix Marshall, many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, who Roberta helped raise; and a host of other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edwin Palmer; siblings, Irene Weatherhead, Geneva McClanahan, Erma Oty, Walter Cox, and Raymond Cox; her lifelong best friend and neighbor, Faye; and her parents. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 pm Friday in the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME with Pastor David Woodrow officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 4-6 pm.
