Tennyson Edward Whitt

Tennyson Edward Whitt, of Springfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully just weeks before his 70th birthday. Born and raised in Springfield to parents from Kentucky, Tennyson lived a humble, hardworking life marked by his love for bowling, appreciation of nice cars, and time spent in the open air. In his younger years, Tennyson worked at the Kettle Potato Chip Factory and later as a roofer until suffering a back injury. Over the years, he found purpose in working outside, especially mowing lawns, which became one of his favorite pastimes. When he wasn’t mowing, he also enjoyed fishing and sharing stories about his good old days, passing along those memories and lessons to his grandchildren. Tennyson was preceded in death by his parents, beloved daughters Amber Whitt and Chassity Collins, and by his grandson Immanuel Burchnell. He is survived by his wife, Sabrina Whitt; his brother, John Whitt; and his children Hope Rice, Phillip (Stephanie) Tackett, and BJ Brown. He is also survived by his nephew, Frank (Misty) Whitt, along with many other nephews and nieces. Tennyson focused much of his energy on caring for his granddaughter Christiana Burchnell, who lived with him and brought him comfort and purpose in his later years. He was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather to many, including Billy, Cameron, and Tayveon Rice, Ani Elliot, Katie, Samantha, and Jonathan Brown, Larissa and Harlan Tackett, Alyssa and Braden Collins, and several great-grandchildren. In his final years, Tennyson could often be found mowing, visiting with friends, and reflecting on the life he had lived. He will be remembered for his independence, his sense of humor, his storytelling, and the pride he carried for his children and grandchildren. Tennyson lived life on his own terms and found peace in the simple things. His memory and lessons will live on through those who loved him most. Services will be held at the Jones-Kenney-Zechman Funeral Home in Springfield on Thursday, November 13th at 6 PM with Pastor David Miller officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 4-6 PM.
