Verna Lucille Pence (née Waldron), 80, of Springfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 8, 2025. Born on April 6, 1945, in Springfield, Ohio, Verna lived a life filled with compassion, dedication, and deep love for her family and the many lives she touched, including the countless individuals she cared for during her 48-year career as a devoted nurse's aide.
She was a devoted wife to her late husband, Victor Pence, with whom she shared 49 years of loving marriage. Together, they built a family rooted in love, resilience, and devotion. Verna is survived by her four children: Vicki Matney (Tim), Ruth Matney, Robert Pence (Rebecca), and Sue Bond (James). She was a proud and loving grandmother to seven grandchildren
-Matt, Tim, Kathy, James, Chelsea, Brandon, and Lacey-and a cherished great-grandmother to six great-grandchildren.
A woman of faith, Verna was baptized and was a devoted member of king James Bible Church, where she found fellowship, strength, and peace in her spiritual walk.
A passionate animal lover, Verna found joy and companionship in her beloved cats, often doting on them as much as she did her family.
Verna is preceded in death by her parents, James and Alma Waldron, her beloved husband, Victor J. Pence, and her son-in-law Tom Matney.
Funeral services will be held at Ferncliff Cemetery in Springfield, Ohio, Thursday, June 12 beginning at 11:00AM with Pastor Richard Blevins officiating and are being coordinated by Jones-Kenney-Zechman Funeral Home.
Verna will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of those who knew her.
