Violet Edna Gelhot, 88, of Springfield, Ohio, passed away at her home on Oct. 30, 2023.
She is reunited in the afterlife with her parents, Everette and Hazel Toombs; brothers, Robert “Bobby” Toombs and Everette “Taddy” Toombs; sisters, Cornelia “Corny” Lauber and Betty Allen; daughter, Sherry Lynette; and great-granddaughter, Aubrey Gelhot.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Gelhot, Sr.; sister, Judith Gatch; son, Donald Gelhot, Jr.; daughters, Sherry Gallagher, Faith Sheerley and Kim Sherritt; grandchildren, Heather Jones, Garrett Gilpin, Sierra Smith, Donald Gelhot III and Daniel Gelhot; and great-grandchildren, Emma McCoy, Emerson Gelhot, Miracle Gelhot and Grace Smith.
Violet was a fiercely loving family woman and foster mother. In the 1970s and ‘80s, Violet fostered four young women who grew to be strong and independent because of her influence. If she claimed you as her own, she boldly protected you, no matter what.
She enjoyed shopping, sewing and, in her heyday, dancing. Violet was recognized in the community as the former manager of London Pharmacy in Springfield, which was owned and operated, 1969-1996, by her husband and pharmacist, Donald Gelhot, Sr.
Violet will be dearly missed by family, friends and those who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Nov. 6, 2023,12-2 p.m. at Jones Kenney Zechman Funeral Home, 1002 E High St., Springfield, Ohio. Services will begin at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Vale Cemetery. Condolences may be shared at www.jkzfh.com.
