Walter “Melvin” Markley, born May 12, 1934, passed away at Oakwood Village after a brief illness on December 18, 2025. For three years prior to entering Oakwood Village in April, 2025, he received 24/7 care from his devoted daughters Kim and Tiffany.
A life-long resident of Springfield, he graduated from Springfield High School in 1952. Melvin was an avid pool player and entertained with his wonderful story-telling abilities. He was employed by the Woodrow Corporation for many years, Bill Marine Auto, and Shaklee Vitamins. He was also a member of the Moose, Union Club and the Eagles.
Melvin is survived by his wife Carolyn (Bowshier); daughters Kim (Curt) Castle, Tiffany (Paul) Salyer and sons Jeff Markley, Ron (Deb) Lloyd, Mark (Deborah) Lloyd. Foster daughter, Claudia Starker. Grandchildren Josh (Brittany) Hall, Matt Hall, Paula (Jon) Combs, Miranda Lloyd, Josh (Mindy) Lloyd, Tabitha and Courtney. Great-Grandchildren, Kristin and Ava Hall, Alexis Hall, Landon and Carson Combs, Haley, Flair and Aubrey. His niece Sherry and her husband John.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Forest and Bertha Markley, sister and brother-in-law Jean (Ralph) Lewis.
